The exciting extra-inning contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a combined 51 million spectators in the United States, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB stated this marks the most-watched World Series finale after the 1991 contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic game secured over 27 million viewers on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Dodgers and Astros, which drew over 29 million. This represents a 16% improvement over the last Game 7 between the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked 4th, Game 4 ranked seventh, Game 5 came in eighth, and the third game finished in thirteenth place.

International Audience Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game drew 11.6 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English program in the country after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it drew 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – recorded 13.1M viewers, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Totals and Trends

The full seven-match series recorded over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded viewership increases for two straight seasons.

Including the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the complete American average reached over 16 million. The total World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew over 8 million watchers, an 8% rise over the previous year and the network’s strongest playoff ratings since 2017.

MLB stated that the World Series was televised in 203 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen different tongues.
