The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Could Fix That

As any significant prize-giving event nears, you'll find a demand for introducing of new categories to honor unsung work and fill the hearts of fans with niche passions.

Another commentator has already made supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. The same goes for board games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front because like all blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand remains most pressing above others. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it’s very subjective, and typically start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why movie academies avoid this approach. But it is a necessary evil in the world of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories actually cover many game types, making space possible for most games within them.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to put them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers published annually without proper recognition at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked in any category during that awards season
  • Another creative title was excluded during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title got ignored in 2021
  • Just some logic titles barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent modest productions, yet the craft of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most engaged experiences worldwide and have been for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience challenges famous sandbox experiences competing to become best-selling game of all time; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and engaging with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. One could readily select multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these include experiences without proper classification at major gaming awards. Logic title developers are working at the hard edge interactive creation, creating some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait 35 years.
