Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, fiends, and dark forces expanding in strength within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the first table of heroes who will separate from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.

This warrior group consists of Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.

This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

According to the DM, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

Casimir then settled his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
  • The adventurer knows Timmony and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the party enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and Wicander turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them no alternative but to head to the remote area in quest for the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

According to episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Questers and Planners parties.

Audiences can look forward to discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
