Cars in German Town Discovered Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Police report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.

The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they added.

Officers then found many other marked vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Officials report initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely human blood.

"There is still no clue as to its origin; authorities are presently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.

City officials said they were working "to solve the incident" and have asked to the community for information.

A high-ranking representative said the attack made him without words and required to be solved rapidly.

"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, referring to the death of nine people by a shooter focusing on residents of migrant background in 2020.
